Expiry Alert was created to remind you of your refrigerated food s expiry date. This app relies on a calendar and a camera only. You will only need to take a picture of the item you ve just bought (like a pack of milk), and then slide it next to the date given on your food. You will then receive a notification three days before the sell by date to remind you of eating it. A study by the FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organisation) showed that food wastage represents as much as 7.3 billion tons per year. This represents a third of the total production of food for human consumption. At a global level, a quarter of the amount of food produced is thrown away and not eaten. In developed countries, food wastage is estimated between 30 and 40% of food production. These figures are extremely shocking, when you realise that at the same time, 13% of the world population suffers from undernourishment. This wastage represents $830 billion.
